The method she follows is not only semantic, but morphological as well. Thus, in contrast with the Balto-Finnic, Hungarian and Samoyed linguistic tradition, she considers not only the so called medio-passive category, but also a number of active verbs as middle. She introduces the following categories to Uralic linguistics (according to S. Kemmer): body action middle, indirect middle, the middle of naturally reciprocal events, mental middle, and tries to class the verbs of the above-mentioned languages to them. The author's findings coincide with the results of recent typological research to a great extent and provide justification for the broader interpretation of the middle voice. | |
