The poet, through a game of dualities, describes the unsettled God that determines the religiosity of the Hispanic man and suggests the god he yearns for, a firm and grim god, shaped by the Iberian man in a piece of Castilian oak, symbol of Spanish unity. La Generación del 98 fue la denominación de un conjunto de escritores españoles nacidos entre 1864 y 1875 cuyo rasgo común fue el influjo provocado por la crisis hispana de 1898. La mayoría de estos autores intentó proponer soluciones a través de su escritura. En este contexto se sitúa el poema “El Dios ibero” de Antonio Machado, donde el poeta, a través de un juego de dualidades, expone al Señor azaroso que determina la religiosidad del hombre hispano y propone sustituirlo por el Ser que él anhela: un Dios firme y adusto, forjado por el hombre ibero en una pieza de roble castellano, símbolo de la unidad hispana. | |
